Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is a highly effective, evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help individuals struggling with intense emotions, impulsive behaviours, and difficulties in interpersonal relationships. It combines cognitive-behavioural techniques with mindfulness practices, teaching clients invaluable skills to better regulate their emotions, tolerate distress, and improve their overall quality of life. DBT emphasises the importance of a balanced, dialectical approach – accepting oneself as they are while simultaneously striving for positive change. With its compassionate, non-judgemental stance, DBT can be a transformative journey for those seeking to build a life worth living.
Psychodynamic therapy delves into the unconscious mind, exploring how past experiences and repressed emotions influence one's present thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It's a collaborative process where the therapist guides the client in uncovering deep-rooted issues, resolving inner conflicts, and gaining self-awareness. Through techniques like free association and dream analysis, the therapy aims to unravel the complexities of the psyche, ultimately helping the client achieve greater emotional well-being and personal growth. The empathetic approach fosters a safe, non-judgemental space for clients to confront their vulnerabilities and work towards lasting positive change.
Person-centred therapy, developed by Carl Rogers, is a humanistic approach that views individuals as having an innate drive towards growth, self-actualisation, and becoming fully functioning. It emphasises the therapist's genuine, warm acceptance and empathic understanding of the client's internal frame of reference. The client is seen as the expert, with the therapist offering a non-judgmental, facilitative climate to foster self-exploration and personal growth. By experiencing congruence, unconditional positive regard, and accurate empathic understanding from the therapist, clients can reconnect with their actualising tendency and move towards a more authentic, self-directed life.
Mindfulness therapy involves cultivating a present, non-judgmental awareness of one's thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations. It teaches individuals to observe their experiences with openness and acceptance, rather than automatically reacting or suppressing them. Through regular practice of mindfulness techniques like meditation and mindful movement, people learn to disengage from unhelpful thought patterns and develop greater emotional resilience. This empowering approach can alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression while fostering self-compassion and a deeper connection with the present moment. With roots in ancient wisdom traditions, mindfulness offers a gentle yet transformative path towards improved well-being.
ADHD assessment is a comprehensive process that aims to identify if an individual meets the criteria for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It typically involves a detailed clinical interview, gathering information from multiple sources like parents or teachers, and administering standardised rating scales . We carefully explore the individual's symptoms, the onset, duration, and impact on various areas of life. We also try to rule out potential alternative explanations before making an accurate diagnosis. Receiving a proper assessment is crucial, as it guides the most appropriate treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.
Our ADHD assessments include an initial consultation to determine the need for further ADHD testing, an ADHD assessment lasting 2.5 to 3 hours which includes administering the CAARS-2, QBCheck and DIVA-5. We provide a diagnostic report and a feedback session to explain our findings.
We are also able to refer interested parties to prescribing services if they are interested in including medication as part of their treatment plan.
EMDR, short for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, is a powerful therapeutic approach used to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories. It involves the client focusing on disturbing thoughts or images while simultaneously engaging in bilateral eye movements or other forms of rhythmic stimulation. This dual attention process helps the brain process and integrate the traumatic memories in a healthier way, reducing their emotional intensity and vividness. EMDR has proven highly effective in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and other trauma-related issues, allowing individuals to heal from the deep psychological wounds inflicted by adverse life events.
